5 Hacks For A Healthier Workplace

The words ‘Corporate Wellness’ are thrown around an awful lot these days. It’s quite possibly the next big thing, (Step aside hot-desking!) Anyone who knows me knows I am a massive fan of the topic - here are five easy steps you can implement at your workplace today.

STEP 1. EMPOWER THE PEOPLE

They are your best asset. Empower your staff and teammates to get involved and host their own activities. You’re likely to have some eager volunteers to run a range of things; walking club, morning bootcamp, lunchtime reading group… You don’t know if you don’t ask!

STEP 2. SPICE UP THE COMPANY CATERING

Most workplaces feel the need to offer ‘indulgent’ workplace catering and food options for meetings. However, in most cases, we don’t need the fancy stuff, staff are generally just appreciative of the gesture. Consider swapping the sweets and pastries for fruit platters and nut mixes and change the lunchtime offering to a selection of sandwiches and salads. If the change is too much to begin with, staff by alternating providers, before you know it they’ll be requesting the wholesome options.

STEP 3. DRIVE WORKPLACE CULTURE IN THE COMMUNITY

Boost team morale and register teams in events such as the City 2 Surf, Blackmores Running Festival or start a lunchtime sports team in the local basketball league or soccer squad. If you do support a charity, many events also offer the option of fundraising for your chosen organisation, nothing better than supporting a good cause.

STEP 4. GET THEM UP ON THEIR FEET

Remove individual rubbish and recycling bins and instead, place in a central location. Make small changes that will encourage staff to get up and about. Research shows that those who move around at least once every hour are more productive. You’ll also find it to be a good promoter of conversation and inclusion.

STEP 5. HOLD A NUTRITION WORKSHOP.

You mightn’t know it, however I am pleased to offer a range of Corporate Nutrition services for workplaces of any size. The Nutrition Workshops in particular, are a great introduction to general nutrition, they’re engaging and interactive. If you’ve been eyeing them off for a while, consider this a sign and book one in today.
