Apple Cinnamon Scrolls

These guys are a little like a scone, little like an apple pie… However you describe it, they’re still delish.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 & 1/2 x cups self-raising flour

  • 50g x butter, chopped

  • 1 x tablespoon sugar

  • 1/2 x cup milk

  • 1 x green apple, skin removed & chopped

  • 1/6 x cup maple syrup

  • 1 x teaspoon ground cinnamon

METHOD

  1. Pre-heat oven to 180℃ and line a 25cm x 15cm rectangular pan with baking paper.

  2. In a medium bowl, rub the butter into the flour for roughly 5 minutes, or until the flour appears to be yellow speckled. Stir in sugar and milk until it all comes together.

  3. Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth (2-3 minutes). Then, roll out the mixture into a rectangle that is 5mm thick.

  4. In a separate bowl, combine the apple, syrup and cinnamon and mix together. Pour the apple mixture across the rolled out dough. Roll the dough up into a tube (lengthways). Then, use a sharp knife to cut the roll into 8 pieces (1.5cm thick or so).

  5. Place the pieces into the lined tray and push them together, this ensures they will grow together and create that ‘pull-apart’ style. Bake for roughly 25 minutes, or until firm and the insides of the scroll pieces appear cooked.
